Let’s barter!

Barter deals is something I have a two-faced relationship with. I mostly detest it for business, as it does nothing to help but bread on the table, but for personal use it’s absolutely great, as it allows you to get stuff while helping other people out at the same time - and with no money changing hands.

And this latter part is why I fundamentally like the concept of Commuto, a new social service for doing barter deals. And a service perfectly times as well.

With the economy moving into recession, there should be a sweet spot for barter deals. Everybody will be looking to get the most from their hard earned cash, and that means that some of the less important things to own will cease to be bought - but if we could barter ourselves to them, that might be an entirely different matter.

The other thing I like about Commuto is the ability to set up communities on a very local level, ie enabling you to swap and barter with people close to you. The system is obvious on a school for swapping text books etc., but there are just so many other potential uses for this. And while it at the same time seems like its pretty straight forward to set up a new community, this could end up being a quite interesting platform.

The obvious thing, which I still haven’t seen (but may be there somewhere), is a Facebook app for Commuto. That, I think, would really play well and work as an enabler for the platform capabilities. So please make that a priority.
