Google offers you The Cloud

One of the most exciting things about the times we live in is that barriers of entry into new markets with new products are getting close to zero. At least from a technological point-of-view. Its the idea rather than your financial clout that makes great things possible.

A front-runner for this has been Amazon, who through its Amazon Web Services have made computing and storage in the cloud an almost free proposition for would be entrepreneurs. And now they are looking towards great competition from someone who wants to make it completely free.

Yes, it’s Google I’m referring to. Rumours have it that Google is planning on taking a stab at Amazon’s web services business by essentially offering cloud computing for free. So far no one has mentioned anything about the terms surrounding this project, but rest assured that Google has a masterplan in taking this step.

Some have suggested that Google’s masterplan is to make it easier to spot and acquire new startups that somehow fits into Google’s overall game plan. This could make some kind of sense, since its recognized that one of the hardest things about getting an acquisition right is the integration of technology and systems (and yes, I park the cultural question for now). With a startup already utilizing Google’s cloud, you could in some respects say that this is a problem well taken care off.

If therefore we should consider this at face value, you could argue that not only are costs being driven to zero. There’s also a new M&A radar in town looking to take prey on your idea and your startup, if it’s the right play. Now, is there a better time to go out and put those great ideas to action? I don’t think so.

That is a good theory… i was wondering the same myself.
another up and coming member of the storage cloud family is Nirvanix, similarly priced as amazon but with way more features and functionality.
