Finally, artisan food goes online

There are no great ideas in drawers. If the idea stays in the drawer, it isn’t great. Unless somebody else go out and do it and get succesful doing so.

Foodzie is an example of this. It’s the idea of a market place where the artisan food business - small producers, organic producers, whatever really as long as it’s authentic - can set up shop and showcase their wares towards the public. And it’s an idea I have been toying with for over a year - but which someone else is now building.

And it feels really great. Because it’s a meaningful project. And I’m sure it will be succesful, if its executed in the right way and with the right mix of astuteness and authentic passion.

When I envisioned something like this I was thinking of all the small road side shops that cover a lot of the island of Fyn, where I live in Denmark. Farmers who sell potatoes, tomatoes, berries etc from a small stand in the road side, and where quality is often miles above what you can get in the local supermarket. And quite reasonably prices as well.

Now, wouldn’t it be great to give them an easy, affordable opportunity to set up shop online and gain the visibility that would make people go out and visit the little stand themselves? I thought so. And this is why I’m so happy that Foodzie seem to be doing something along these lines.

Foodzie, conceptually speaking, is a lot like the artisan market place Etsy. And if anything can be judged from the succes of that site, Foodzie is going to do really well. It almost makes me sad, I didn’t follow up on the idea but choose to bury it in the drawer instead.
