It’s all about passion

It’s somehow fitting that this post on the one year anniversary of Vad NU! should be about passion and the great business rationale in developing content and services for and out of passion.

Joshua Porter said it well the other day, when he mentioned that catering to people’s passions is what really counts. And I might add that this is especially true in times of abundance of choice.

The rationale is pretty straight forward and goes along these lines:

In our lives there are things that we’re passionate about (apart from family, loved ones and perhaps even work). When we prioritize our time, we tend to find time for our passions thus reducing the time we spend on other non-passion related things.

The logic conclusion is that if you’re designing to cater for someone’s passion, you stand a better chance of actually finding a lasting market, than if you’re not. You might perhaps even find your niche, which you can build on over time.

Passion also has another important dimension. It’s a real life passion. Something we want to do and spent our time on. It’s not about technology. Technology here is an enabler. As a consequence companies should focus less of the discussion around technology and platforms and more on how to cater to the passion of their customers. It really shouldn’t be that hard to understand, should it?
