Conversation: PR and marketing combined
Sam from GoBigAlways asks why there is still both marketing and PR agencies working on the same clients from different angles, when its rather obvious that its all ultimately about reaching out to the community?
Its a fair question. And to be honest I don’t get it either. And I really don’t understand why companies feel they need to ‘market’ something towards me and often do so using adverts that plainly insults my intelligence?
I punish all those. I do so by not buying their products, even though they might even be good for my needs. This again begs the question why it is that they simply don’t just engage in a conversation with me? If I feel like their product or service could do something good for me, I would happily engage with them.
So to my mind, there’s really no need for separate marketing and PR functions. Marketing is so industrial age to me, and PR - or Public Relations - is an academic term for something that should feel natural to every person trying to sell something to somebody else.
Yet it doesn’t. But by realigning the resources into one big Conversation organization there should indeed be a glimmer of hope of creating a force that would actually have meaning and create value for all. To me that would be a thought to consider.
