Celebration for a great business

Today is a day of celebration for users of Denmark’s biggest online dating portal, Dating.dk. Because it is now 10 years ago that the site opened up its virtual doors to people looking for friendship and true love.

And what a ride it has been. Not only is the service the biggest of its kind in Denmark today. It has also proved that if you have an offering that is appealing enough, you can actually make loads of money directly of end users.

In order to be a full fledged member of Dating.dk you need to pay a subscription. And pay, people do. After all, isn’t finding the true love of your life not worth a measly amount? I think so.

Of course the issue is to find other areas where the propensity to pay is as big as is the case on dating. It’s hard, but it’s not impossible. It’s ‘just’ a matter of figuring out which stuff is important enough for people to want to pay for. That only a few services have been able to do this to this day, say more about them and what they have to offer than the users, IMHO.
