A good site is like a puzzle

I have been wondering quite a bit about how come that so many website - and news websites are especially bad at this - look so disinterested and alike. Like the persons, who created them, just couldn’t care less.

It seems like a lot of the times, there’s an overall plot missing. A big picture. And this made me think: A good site is a lot like a puzzle.

A puzzle has lots of pieces, and when you put them together you get one coherrent picture. It’s easy to see, if it’s a picture of boat, a town or the pyramids. It makes sense. There’s a greater meaning.

Looking at the puzzle piece by piece, there is also meaning in these. Because certain pieces fits certain puzzles - others don’t. If you think about the big picture of a boat, you would know that a piece of the pyramids probably won’t fit into the context. So you leave it out.

Try thinking about that when you think about what content or services to have in your website in order to get to the one big picture. I bet it will get a lot more focused. And look less disinterested. It might actually have meaning.
