In the Basque Country, in Mondragon, the heart of the Basque Cooperative movement, you have a media group, Goiena, wich is organized as a cooperative. They are about 50 plus workers, most of them working in:

- Goiena paper: http://www.goiena.com/prentsa
- Goiena television: http://www.goiena.com/goitb
- Goiena.net: http://goiena.net/
- Arrasate radio: http://goiena.net/honi-buruz/arrasate-irratia

They all work in Basque language, for a community of 60.000 people in the Deva Valley. You can contact them here: http://www.goiena.com/contact

I agree there are lots of opportunities here. The challenging thing is to turn it into a business that can support itself. I'm pretty convinced that by and large the new platforms out there are more dead-set on this than the media industry. And thus we have every opportunity to repeat the free failure of web content. Let's work to make sure that doesn't happen.

Just to explain the naming: VadNU used to be the name of my consulting company hence the Twitter-tag, @vadnu. The name of this blog is my full name. Mads Vad Kristensen is what my work (for some odd) reason chose to call me in their systems.

[...] 5 social trends for 2012 – blog post from @vadnu summing up his own presentation. I’m pretty much in agreement. He later posted on Progressing backwards which is rather more thought provoking. (Just an aside on Danish names. I’ve used Mads’ Twitter handle because, as you can see from his blog, his name is unfeasibly long and appears in different forms all over. This is quite normal in these parts, and I’m assured shouldn’t be viewed as showing off. He’s referred to as Mads Vad sometimes as well, which got me well confused…) [...]

Interesting thoughts. Especially 'Social OS' is going to be a huge challenge to media because of the beginning web-bypass.

The 'Subscribe'-button to websites promoted a LeWeb on dec. 7 by Facebook is another step in that direction. The same is reading-apps / 'portals' like Guardian and The Wall Street Journal on Facebook. Of course it has been happening for a while with aggegators like Zite and Flipboard, who now again takes the lead to a million pockets with their new iPhone App that looks good and works like a charm.

I also see this move with newly introduced Spotify Apps where traditional media is provided a brand platform to promote content around playlists.

I see this as a huge opportunity for media-companies to market, brand and develope content in a whole new way. Of course also as a threat since especially because Facebook is trying to corner that media market. To be ready for this transition we also have to find the formular to move our content around the web in new formats. Get to know the patterns more closely. Not only move the content but develop it and mix it up in content-bouquets that can be 'organic' and be where the consumers / users are at the right time.

I both agree - and disagree :-)

Naturally, the OS itself will hold more features than an HTML5 web-app, such as it is in the world of desktop computing.

However, there are cases where HTML5 makes more sense than creating an app - or two or three apps (one for each major player: iOS, Android, Windows). Pure content apps might as well be in HTML5 as in the form of an app, as Financial Times' web-app.

When you want to create service apps, you might need features that the OS holds (such as compass, GPS etc.) and then an app makes more sense.

It's amazing how many people forget to the that - but I guess it goes deeper. Lot's of (new) compamies, don't do basic market/product research. They have no idea what their real value is to different kind of customers. I think some of it stems from a dislike for marketing/sales from more technical oriented people.
