Google offers you The Cloud

One of the most exciting things about the times we live in is that barriers of entry into new markets with new products are getting close to zero. At least from a technological point-of-view. Its the idea rather than your financial clout that makes great things possible.

A front-runner for this has been Amazon, who through its Amazon Web Services have made computing and storage in the cloud an almost free proposition for would be entrepreneurs. And now they are looking towards great competition from someone who wants to make it completely free. [Read more →]

Let the music PLAY

Danish telco, TDC, is your friend, if you are into music. At least that is how the old once-upon-a-time state monopoly wants to position itself. Starting at midnight April 1 the telco will be offering more than 1 million tracks from the likes of Sony BMG, EMI and Warner for download to broadband and mobile subscribers through their new music service PLAY - absolutely free of charge. And it’s supposedly not an Aprils Fools joke.

TDC CEO Jens Alder calls it “the companys most important strategic bet for years”. Even though I like the idea I will let that remark sit for itself for a few seconds in the memory of all the other things TDC could - and in my mind should - have done ages ago instead. [Read more →]

New YouTube feature with implications

applikationer1.jpgYouTube is launching a new service which allows content creators to gain live insight into where, when and how a clip is being watched by users. Think of it as a TV Meter but with live data instead of a complex analytical calculation. The move has some potentially very serious implications to both TV and society.

For TV having a live measurement tool should put the TV Meter system under intense pressure. Why is it that people continue to question online measurement but consider TV Meters the absolute truth? For TV this could therefore potentially mean that advertisers will be starting to ask more tough questions before deciding whether to spend money on TV advertising. And tough questions being asked in an already tough advertising market is potentially super tough. [Read more →]

A travel guide with no search…

applikationer1.jpgJP/Politiken’s Hus, the big Danish media conglomerate, has launched its new travel guide website, TGT.dk. And it’s a site that comes with a major surprise:

You can’t search travel destinations.

Bewildering enought in itself, it’s not completely right though. As on other travel sites you can search for plane tickets and hotels. [Read more →]

InsideTrip - a clever app

applikationer1.jpgAnyone who has ever travelled on economy to the US knows that a ticket can indeed be to cheap. Because why save a couple of hundred dollars, if you nearly miss you flight due to slow check in, and the flight itself nearly kills you because of a generic lack of space for an ordinary built adult?

Enter InsideTrip. InsideTrip is what I would call a clever application in that it not only lets you make a decision as to which ticket to buy. It actually gives you the opportunity to make an INFORMED decision about your ticket purchase. [Read more →]

Competing in Web TV just got harder

applikationer1.jpgOn April 2 I will be moderating two panels on UPDATE’s conference on Web TV at the University of Southern Denmark. It’s something I’m looking forward to, as Web TV is a space in which a lot of stuff is happening. You can sign up for the conference here.

The discussions at the conference are going to be interesting. Because besides Web TV being a somewhat foreign thing for most media companies - and a thing a lot of them are finding it hard to really grasp - the competion is fierce. And it just became worse. [Read more →]
